Day 13 – Easy Detox Meal – Spaghetti Squash

So today was a busy day with school activities and errands and I didn’t particularly feel like going through a huge ordeal for dinner.

Melissa had told me that “Spaghetti” squash was a good alternative to regular pasta.  I had never heard of it before.

I didn’t have a recipe or instructions in my meal plan, so I just googled it and found instructions on how to cook it.

The article I found listed several ways to prepare it:  boil, microwave, and bake.  I choose to back it.  I cooked two of them and just poked holes in the top, put them on a baking sheet, and baked them at 375 degrees for an hour.

Once they are done, you just cut them in half, scoop out the seeds, and then use a fork and rake the meat of the squash off the rind.  It comes out in strings like spaghetti.  Just top it with your favorite organic sauce and you’re ready to go!

As long as you can stick it in ahead of time, I think this is the easiest detox diet meal that I’ve made so far.  And it only has 80 calories per serving!  Can you believe it?

Next time, I think I’m going to cook several ahead of time and see how well they keep frozen.

Day 12 – An Easy Breakfast Solution

So one of the challenges that I have always had is eating breakfast.  I don't know why it is such a struggle for me.  I guess I'm just always so busy getting everyone and everything together and out the door in the morning. However, I know that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day," and I've also read that a common factor among people who are overweight is that they don't eat breakfast. So I need to fix that. I've been trying to come up with ways to prepare meals ahead of time.  With all the ingredients being so fresh . . .that isn't always easy. Day 11 – Problem Areas

One key part of the detox diet plan is that you are never supposed to go more than four hours without eating.  Ideally you should be eating a snack inbetween meals every two to three hours. This is something I've been falling short in.  Sometimes I get busy with what I am doing and I don't stop for a snack.  I don't even have an excuse because I have snacks lined out on my meal plan, so I all I have to do is just get up and get it.

Day 10 – Shopping Once Again

I had planned out my menu using PlantoEat.com on Saturday night; however, I wasn't able to go to the store to shop for the week until today. Even with all three girls with me, it still went quite a bit faster this time. Again, one of the challenges shopping at the local HEB is that there are three . . . actually four . . . separate areas where the ingredients the recipes call for could be:  the gluten free area, the spice section, the baking section, and then anywhere in the natural food sections. This time I was able to find arrowroot now that I knew that I wasn't looking for a vegetable (Whoo Hoo!) The big hunt this time was for ...

Day 9 – Starting the Second Week

We're working on our second week of our detox diet.   This has been a enterprise the whole family has undertaken. I tried to do something similar earlier this year; however, the recipes I had were for things that I probably would never normally eat.  So not only was I trying to change my eating style and habits but also completely change my tastes.  I also didn't have someone helping me with it either or a plan.   Also, there was no way that the girls would eat the things that I was, so I had to cook two different meals every time.   Needless to say, that effort didn't last very long.
